Apartment Decor, Mass-transit Comparison (You’re welcome!), Braces Removal

Our Denver apartment has plain, white walls; so the first order of business Friday (after the Capitol) was going to the Denver Art Museum and its gift shop to get some prints for the walls. The prints are pretty small, so we bought another one in Castle Rock today. We can fit all three in our suitcases in case we encounter the horrors of another unadorned apartment in our travels.
It’s been wretchedly cold in Denver, snowing a little each day with a layer of ice underneath making it mightily unpleasant to walk anywhere. We had to take an RTD bus Monday, and I wept (not really) for the lack of convenience compared to San Francisco’s mass transit. Instead of having a money-loaded card that deducts the fare each time we take the bus or train, we have to buy ticket books for RTD ( which stands for “Regional Transportation District” – or as Wayne’s friend Doug said years ago “Reason to Drive”). While San Francisco’s Muni system has GPS tracking devices on the buses and an app that allows riders to know when the next bus is coming, RTD has no tracking technology. And even though we’re near downtown, the available routes are not very convenient. If we want to go to the zoo (three miles away), we can only take a bus for about a third of that trip. Ditto for the one-mile trip from our house to the rental car place that we went today. We rented a car to drive to Castle Rock because…
Laurel got her braces off today! She’s happy to be rid of them. She’s not nearly doing the extensive happy dance that I did when I got mine off last summer. (She’s a bit more mature than I.)
